Hockey India to give specialized training to U-16 players in drag flick and goalkeeping

New Delhi. Hockey India will provide special drills in drag flicks and goalkeeping to boys and girls in the U-16 category as part of a grassroots development program starting later this month. Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said former India drag flick specialists Rupinder Pal Singh, VR Raghunath and Birender Lakra will train the young players under the programme. This program will start from 19 March.

Virtually launching Hockey India’s grassroots development programme, Tirkey said, “Drag flicks and goalkeeping have become extremely important in world hockey. I don’t think young players in the country are given enough training in these two areas. We desperately need to add these two aspects to the training program for U-16 boys and girls. “Now we will provide special training for U-16 and U-19 players in drag flicks and goalkeeping. For this, a group of 10 male and female players will be selected who will take training in drag flick and goalkeeping from Indian and foreign coaches.
