Ireland’s all-rounder Dockrell played despite being Kovid positive
Ireland’s all-rounder George Dockrell tested positive ahead of the T20 World Cup Super 12 match against Sri Lanka here on Sunday. This is the first positive case of the tournament. But despite coming to Kovid-19 positive, Dockrell came on the field against Sri Lanka and he scored 14 runs in 16 balls. Cricket Ireland has confirmed that Dockrell has tested positive. Also, the board said that they are being kept as per the guidelines of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and national authorities.
According to the current rules, despite coming positive, the player cannot be stopped from training with his teammates or the T20 World Cup being played here. However, a positive player needs to travel separately on match and training days. According to a report by the tournament’s official website, T20worldcup.com, “Dockrell’s symptoms are mild, although the team’s medical staff has acted as per the protocol of the tournament and the government.” The ICC Chief Medical Officer, the rival team and stadium staff have been informed about the situation.
