Chennai Super Kings get first win in IPL 2023, beat Lucknow Super Giants

In the 16th season of IPL, Chennai team won by 12 runs in the match played between Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants. In the match played at the home ground of Chennai Super Kings, the Lucknow team won the toss and invited Chennai to bat first. After this, the Chennai team gave the target of 218 runs to Lucknow in 20 overs. This season it was the highest run target by any team. After a full 1426 days, the Chennai team came out to play on the ground of Chepauk, in which it displayed strong batting.

The Lucknow team started with a bang. The opening pair of Kyle Mayers and KL Rahul gave the team a great start. Kyle Mayers completed his half-century in 21 balls with the help of eight fours and two sixes. After this Meyers became the victim of Moin Ali on the score of 53. After this, Deepak Hooda came to handle the innings with KL Rahul but he was caught by Ben Stokes off the bowling of Mitchell Santner. After this, the third wicket also fell very quickly for Lucknow. Captain KL Rahul also fell prey to Moin Ali and returned to the pavilion for 20 runs. Ruturaj Gaikwad made the captain walk by holding the catch. As soon as KL Rahul was dismissed, the Lucknow team had lost three wickets at the score of 82.

After KL Rahul, the team got the fourth blow too soon. Krunal Pandya also could not stay at the crease for long. Krunal was caught by Ravindra Jadeja off Moin Ali, who was dismissed for no run. Ruturaj shines again
The Chennai team was started by Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway. Both gave Chennai a great start with the help of a century partnership. Gaikwad scored 57 runs in 37 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes while Devon Conway scored 47 runs in 29 balls which included five fours and two sixes. Shivam Dubey scored 27 runs in 16 balls which included one four and three sixes. Wood, who took five wickets against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, took three wickets for 49 runs in four overs. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets for 28 runs in four overs for Lucknow.

Sent in to bat first, Gaikwad and Conway scored 79 runs in the first six overs. Gaikwad, who scored 92 in the first match, kept that momentum going and was ably supported by New Zealand’s Conway. Chennai’s 100 runs were scored in the eighth over. Gaikwad hit three sixes in K Gautam’s first over. Fast bowler Avesh Khan gave 16 runs in the first four balls of the second over. He took the wicket of Ben Stokes for 39 runs in three overs. Earlier, the match started a few minutes late due to the presence of a dog on the field.
