India’s three boxers including Raveena in quarterfinals

Reigning Asian youth champion Raveena (63kg) rode on some fine skills to enter the quarterfinals of the IBA Youth Men’s and Women’s World Boxing Championships in La Nucia, Spain. Raveena defeated Varga Francisca Rosi of Hungary in the last-16 round match. The Indian pugilist dominated from the start with powerful punches. In the second round too, he made a similar start and dominated his opponent which forced the referee to stop the bout and the Indian boxer made it to the quarterfinals.

Among other women boxers, Kunjarani Devi Thongam (60kg) also entered the last eight. He defeated Spain’s Jorge Martinez Maria 5–0 in a one-sided match. In men’s boxing, Mohit (86kg) advanced to the quarterfinals following a second round disqualification of his opponent Tomas Lemanas of Lithuania. Sahil Chauhan (71kg) made it to the pre-quarterfinals with a comfortable 5-0 win over Daniil Holostenko of Azerbaijan in the last 32 match.

Nikhil (57kg) and Harsh (60kg), however, lost their last-32 bouts. Nikhil lost to Kalinin Ilya of Kazakhstan and Harsh to Erik Lerelyan of Armenia. Nine Indians, including three women, will enter the ring in the last-16 round on the fifth day of the tournament.
