Indonesia Open: Lakshya and Srikanth enter second round after beating their rivals in straight games

Jakarta. Commonwealth Games champion Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen and his compatriot Kidambi Srikanth stormed into the second round of the men’s singles Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 tournament with straight-game wins over their respective rivals, here on Wednesday. World Championship bronze medalist and world No. 20 Lakshya registered a 21-17 21-13 win over world No. 11 Ji Jia Lee of Malaysia in just 32 minutes, while Srikanth got the better of China’s Liu Guang Zhu. 21-13 21-19 and shown the way out.

world number 22 playerSrikanth thus maintained his dominance against world number 13 Lue. Srikanth has won all his five matches against the Chinese player so far. In the next round, however, Lakshya and Srikanth will be locked in a head-to-head encounter, with the Indian losing the match. India’s Priyanshu Rajawat also made it to the second round. He got a walkover against Thailand’s Kunlavut Witidsarn.

In the second round, however, Rajawat won’t have an easy road ahead as he will face the winner of the match between Denmark’s Hannes-Kristian Solberg Vittingas and second seeded local Anthony Sinisuka Ginting. India’s young female player Aakarshi Kashyap, however, suffered a first round defeat in women’s singles. Aakarshi had no answer to Korea’s second seed Aan Se Young as she went down 10-21 4-21.
