RCB blown in Suryakumar’s storm, Mumbai Indians reach third place

Half-centuries from Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera and a third-wicket century partnership between the two helped Mumbai Indians beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets in the Indian Premier League, here on Tuesday, to reach the third position in the points table. Mumbai Indians chased down RCB’s 200 with a 66-ball 140 between Suryakumar (83 off 35 balls, seven fours, six sixes) and Wadhera (52 off 34 balls, four fours, three sixes) The partnership scored 200 runs for four wickets with 21 balls remaining and won. Opener Ishan Kishan (42 off 21 balls, four fours, four sixes) also played a blistering inning. With this win, Mumbai Indians have 12 points in 11 matches and the team has reached the third position.

Scored 199 runs for six wickets with the partnership of. Apart from these two, only Dinesh Karthik (30) could cross the 20-run mark. Jason Behrendorff was the most successful bowler for Mumbai, taking three wickets for 36 runs. Cameron Green, Kumar Karthikeya and Chris Jordan also picked up one wicket each. The Jordans, however, remained very expensive. He looted 48 runs in four overs. Chasing the target, Mumbai team got off to a brisk start by Kishan adding 51 runs in 4.4 overs along with captain Rohit Sharma. Kishan opened the account with a four on the first ball of Mohammad Siraj’s innings and then hit two consecutive fours on Josh Hazlewood in the next over. Ishan also hit two consecutive sixes in the next over of Siraj. He welcomed Wanindu Hasaranga (2/53) with a four and a six but was caught by wicketkeeper Anuj Rawat in the same over.

 

In the same over, Hasaranga gave second blow to Mumbai by lbw Rohit (07). Mumbai scored 62 runs for two wickets in the powerplay. Suryakumar and Wadhera then took the innings forward. Wadhera was lucky on a personal score of 15 when Hasaranga dropped his catch off his own ball. Suryakumar and Vadhera preferred to rotate the strike and also made the ball see the boundary in between. Mumbai’s hundred runs were completed in the 11th over. Suryakumar and Wadhera both hit Hasaranga for sixes in this over. Suryakumar showed sharp attitude after this. He hit fours and sixes on consecutive balls of Siraj and then completed his half-century in 26 balls with one run on the next ball. He also hit Hasaranga for two sixes in the next over. Mumbai needed only 26 runs in the last five overs. Suryakumar hit two sixes and a four in consecutive balls of Vijaykumar Vishak (2/37) in the 16th over. He was caught by Kedar Jadhav on the next ball but by then Mumbai’s victory was just a formality. Wadhera completed his half-century in 34 balls with a six over Harshal in the next over and took the team to the target. Rohit won the toss and invited RCB to bat. Vadhera dropped Duplesey’s catch on Behrendorff’s fourth ball of the match but on the next ball, Virat Kohli (01) was caught by wicketkeeper Kishan. In Behrendorff’s next over, Anuj Rawat (06) hit a four but was caught by Green after playing a bad shot on the next ball. Duplesey and Maxwell then decorated the innings. Maxwell opened the account with a four on Behrendorff, while this fast bowler also got the ball to the boundary twice in the next over. Du Plessis also hit two fours on Green and six on Behrendorff. RCB scored 56 runs for two wickets in the powerplay.

 

Maxwell, showing an aggressive attitude, hit two sixes on Jordan while one on Piyush Chawla. He completed his half-century in just 25 balls with a single off Akash Madhwal. Duplessis completed the team’s century in the 10th over with a six over Madhwal. He scored a half-century in 30 balls with one run off Jordan’s ball. Rohit then brought Behrendorff back to the bowling and, not disappointing his captain, broke his partnership with Du Plessis by getting Maxwell caught by Wadhera at deep midwicket. Left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya bowled Mahipal Lomror (01) in the next over to give RCB the fourth blow. Du Plessis too was caught by substitute Vishnu Vinod in the next over off Green. Karthik hit Jordan for a four but on the next ball, Green dropped his catch at long on. Taking advantage of life, he hit two fours and a six on Kartikeya in the 18th over. Karthik, however, caught Wadhera at the boundary in an attempt to play a big shot in Jordan’s next over.
