Missed opportunity by losing four wickets in Powerplay: Markram

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram said he thought he had a chance at the break but lost four runs in the powerplay after being knocked out of the play-off race with a 34-run defeat against Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League here on Monday. They squandered it by losing wickets. The Titans posted 188 for nine on the back of Gill’s 58-ball 101, studded with 13 fours and a six, besides his 147-run partnership for the second wicket with Sai Sudarshan (47). Apart from these two, however, none of the Titans batsmen could reach double digits.

In response, the Sunrisers team could only manage 154 runs for nine wickets despite the half-century of Heinrich Klaasen (64) in front of the sharp bowling of Mohammed Shami (4 for 21) and Mohit Sharma (4 for 28). Klaasen also added 68 runs for the eighth wicket with Bhuvneshwar Kumar (27). The Sunrisers team could only manage 45 runs for four wickets in the powerplay. Markram said after the match, “At the break, we believed we still had a chance but we squandered it by losing four wickets in the powerplay.”

In bowling too, Sunrisers had a poor start in the powerplay, on which the captain said, “We have got top-class bowlers and we thought the ball would swing for a while but it didn’t.” Gill did well.” Markram praised his bowlers and said, “The credit goes to Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) for getting us back.
