Blast in Pakistan’s Karachi University, 4 killed, Chinese nationals were the target of attackers

There has been a big explosion in Karachi, Pakistan. Several people are feared dead in the blast. Pakistani newspaper The Express Tribune on Tuesday feared that at least four people were killed in an explosion at Karachi University. It is reported that a commercial passenger van exploded inside the university campus. Foreign nationals are also among those killed. According to initial reports, an explosion took place in a van near the Confucius Institute in the university.

According to local media reports, the van was carrying the lecturer, including two foreign nationals, who were returning after teaching at the university. Meanwhile, police sources said that there were seven to eight people in the van, however, the exact number of casualties is yet to be revealed. Karachi Police Chief Ghulam Nabi Memon said preliminary investigations suggest it could be a suicide bomber. He said closed-circuit television footage from the site showed a man wearing a female burqa from head to toe walking up to the van, which was followed by an instantaneous explosion.

According to the Hindustan Times report, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack. It is claimed that a female suicide bomber, Shari Bloch alias Brams, carried out the attack. It is the first major attack on Chinese civilians in Pakistan since the bombing of a bus in Dasu, north-west in July 2021, in which nine Chinese civilians were killed.
