IPL 2023: Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians by 55 runs to reach second place in the table

Ahmedabad. After scoring a big score on the basis of a 35-ball 71-run partnership between Abhinav Manohar and David Miller, a strong performance by the bowlers led by Noor Ahmed and Rashid Khan helped Gujarat Titans beat Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League T20 match on Tuesday. Defeated by 55 runs. Man of the match Manohar hit three fours and three sixes in his innings of 42 runs in 21 balls while Miller scored 46 runs in 22 balls with the help of two fours and four sixes. In the last over, Rahul Tewatia contributed an unbeaten 20 runs in five balls with the help of three sixes. For Gujarat, opener Shubman Gill also played an innings of 56 runs in 34 balls. Gujarat Titans restricted Mumbai Indians to 152 for nine after scoring 207 for six.

With this win, the Gujarat team moved to second place in the points table after Chennai Super Kings with five wins in seven matches. Noor (3/37 in four overs) was Gujarat’s most successful bowler. Rashid and Mohit Sharma took two wickets each. Rashid reached the top of the list of highest wicket-taker in the current season. He now has 14 wickets to his name. For Mumbai, Nehal Wadhera contributed the maximum 40 runs in 21 balls. Mumbai bowlers looted 70 runs in the last four overs. Piyush Chawla (34 for two in four overs) was the successful bowler for the team.

Arjun Tendulkar (nine runs in two overs), Jason Behrendorff (37 runs in four overs), Kumar Kartikeya (39 runs in four overs) and Riley Meredith (49 runs in four overs) got one success each. Cameron Green gave away 39 runs in two overs. Defending the target, Mohammed Shami and Hardik once again bowled brilliantly in the early overs. Hardik dismissed Rohit (two runs in eight balls) on the last ball of the second over. Green hit Hardik for a six in the fourth over but he and Ishan Kishan (13 off 20 balls) struggled in the powerplay. The team could score only 32 runs in the first six overs. Green hit his second and third sixes against Noor Ahmed in the seventh and ninth overs, but in the meantime, in the eighth over, Ishan Kishan played an aerial shot off Rashid Khan under pressure but was caught at long-on.

Tilak Verma (two runs in three balls) also got trapped in the same over. After Noor bowled Green (33 off 26 balls) in the 11th over, Tim David (0) was dismissed and Gujarat got hold of the match. Suryakumar Yadav hit two fours and a six against Rashid in the next over, while Wadhera continued his struggle against Noor by hitting fours and sixes in consecutive balls. Suryakumar’s dismissal in the same over shattered Mumbai’s hopes. Wadhera and Chawla (18 off 12 balls) then hit some big shots but it was not enough for the team. Arjun (13 runs in nine balls) hit Mohit for a six before getting out in the last over. Earlier, after deciding to bowl, Arjun got Wriddhiman Saha (four runs in seven balls) caught by wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan in the third over. Gill hit Green in the sixth over after hitting successive fours for a six as the team collected 17 runs from the over to leave Gujarat at 50 for one after the power play.

Piyush Chawla, who came to bowl in the seventh over, made Hardik Pandya (13 runs in 14 balls) walk on the very first ball.Vijay Shankar hit a six against Kumar Kartikeya in the 10th over. Gill stole a run after hitting a four in the same over and completed his fifty in 30 balls. Gill, however, got caught in the spin of this bowler in the next over and was caught by Suryakumar at long-on. Chawla showed Shankar (19 off 16 balls) the way to the pavilion in the 13th over. Miller hit his first six against Karthikeya in the 14th over, while Abhinav Manohar hit two fours and a six in Chawla’s over to score 17 runs.

Against Green, who came to bowl in the 18th over, Manohar hit two consecutive while Miller hit a six, Gujarat collected 22 runs from this over. Meredith dismissed Manohar on the first ball of the next over but Rahul Tewatia opened the account with a six as soon as he stepped into the crease. Miller hit a six off the last two balls of the over. Tewatia took the team’s runs past 200 with two consecutive sixes in the last over. In the same over, Miller was dismissed for a big shot.
