Venus Williams gets entry in Wimbledon 2023, will participate in singles match due to wild card

Wimbledon. Venus Williams is set to compete for the 24th time in the women’s singles category at the Wimbledon tennis tournament. The 43-year-old American player was on Wednesday given a wild card entry into the prestigious Grand Slam tournament. Venus is a five-time singles champion at Wimbledon.

World number 697 Venus had defeated world number 48 Camila Giorgi 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-6 (6) in the Birmingham Classic on Monday. It was his first win against a top 50 player in almost four years. Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina and Britain’s Heather Watson and Katie Boulter have been given wild cards in women’s singles. In the men’s singles, David Goffin of Belgium is among the players who have got wild cards. Wimbledon starts on July 3.
