Brilliant start for Indian shooters at Changwon Junior World Championships

Talented shooters Shubham Bisla and Senyam on Sunday gave India a golden start at the ISSF World Junior Championships in Changwon, Korea, winning gold medals in men’s and women’s 10m air pistol respectively. It was Shubham’s first gold at the ISSF junior level while Senyam repeated her title success at the Suhal Junior World Cup last month in Changwon. India won both the gold medals at stake on the first day of the competition and continues to top the medal tally. Shubham landed on the range first and won the men’s air pistol final with a score of 244.6. China’s Bu Shuaihang was far behind with a score of 239.6.

Korea’s Kim Kanghyun won the bronze with a score of 218.2. Earlier, Shubham had qualified for the finals by finishing second in the qualification round with a score of 578. Boo topped the list with 585 points. Amit Sharma (576) and Sagar Bhargava (575) were also able to enter the final after finishing sixth and eighth respectively in qualifying. In the final, Sagar finished fourth and Amit finished fifth. Senyam won the gold medal in the women’s air pistol final with a score of 242.2. Korea’s Oh Yi Jin won the silver with 239.4 while China’s Yao Xianxun won the bronze with 218.6. Senyam finished fifth in the qualification with a score of 576 while Urva Chowdhary finished sixth with the same score to make it to the finals.

Urva missed out on a medal by a narrow margin. She finished fourth with a score of 198.1. Indian women failed to make it to the finals at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy. Shreyasi Singh finished 32nd in qualifying with a score of 111. Manish Keer shot the same score as her to finish 35th, while Rajeshwari Kumari finished 52nd with a score of 106. In men’s trap, Prithviraj Tondiman shot 97 in the first four qualification rounds to finish sixth and remain in contention for a place in the final.
