Suryakumar ‘best batsman of tournament’, but will get a chance to get out: Butler

Adelaide. Suryakumar Yadav, one of the best batsmen in the ongoing T20 World Cup, has had the advantage of playing freely without any pressure but England captain Jos Buttler feels he needs just one chance to get out in the semi-final on Thursday. Will be Suryakumar has scored three half-centuries in five matches of this tournament and on a few occasions, the game of veteran Virat Kohli has also looked ordinary in front of his batting. “It’s great to see his batting,” Butler said here on the eve of the match on Wednesday. I think he is someone who has probably been the best batsman of the tournament so far. The England captain said, “But as with any batsman in the world, a chance is needed to take wickets. We need to find a way to do that.”

Butler, who has been a close watcher of Suryakumar in the IPL, believes that the secret of Suryakumar’s success is to bat without any pressure. The England captain said, “His biggest strength is that he plays with complete freedom. Obviously he has all the shots, but he himself creates opportunities to play all kinds of shots. Praising Suryakumar, Buttler said his team cannot afford to plan for just one batsman against India. “It would be a mistake to think only of Suryakumar. I think he has some other great players as well.” Fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has dismissed Butler five times in T20 Internationals and the England opener has scored 30 off 32 balls against the Indian bowler. Butler is hopeful that he will be able to overcome Bhuvneshwar’s challenge in the semi-finals.

Butler said that I have no fear of any bowler. I will leave well prepared. I will play the ball according to its ability and not according to the bowler.” The boundary line is short from the pitch at the Adelaide ground and Butler said his team will have to make strategic changes accordingly. Obviously the strategy here will be a little different, he said. The distance of the boundary matters on the ground where we play. In such a situation, there is a balance between bowling and batting. Butler dismissed the fact that the Indian team is not as strong as before. He said, “No, not at all. I think India is a very, very strong team. I think the Indian team has been consistently strong for a long time.
