Kohli became the fastest player to score 25,000 runs in international cricket

Former India captain Virat Kohli became the fastest player to reach 25,000 runs in international cricket on the third day of the second Test against Australia on Sunday. Kohli, batting on eight, achieved the feat with a four off Nathan Lyon in the 12th over of the innings when India were chasing 115 to win the match. This is the 492nd international (Test, ODI and T20) match of Kohli’s career.

Before this match, he was 52 runs away from the 25,000-run mark. He scored 44 in the first innings and 20 in the second innings. Kohli now has 25, 012 international runs. Congratulating him, the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted, “Another achievement. Congratulations Virat Kohli on completing 25,000 runs in international cricket. This is very special. BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote on Twitter, “Heartiest congratulations to Virat Kohli on completing the fastest 25,000 international runs.”

Before Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar (34357 runs in 664 matches), Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (28016 in 594 matches) and Mahela Jayawardene (25957 in 652 matches), Ricky Ponting of Australia (27483 in 560 matches) and Jacques Kallis of South Africa ( 25534 in 519 matches) has achieved this milestone. The 34-year-old Kohli made his debut for India in 2008. He achieved this feat in his 549th innings which is the least among these six batsmen.

Tendulkar took 577 innings to reach 25000 runs while Ponting did it in 588 innings. During this, Kohli’s average has been more than 53. In this case, Kallis is in second place with an average of 49.10. Kohli has 8195 runs in 106 Tests, 12809 runs in 271 ODIs and 4008 runs in 115 T20s.
