Afghanistan names young fast bowler Rahman in ODI squad against Sri Lanka

Afghanistan have named 21-year-old fast bowler Abdul Rehman in their 15-man squad for the three-ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. Afghanistan have already qualified for this year’s World Cup while Sri Lanka will have to go through the qualifiers where they will try to finish in the top two to qualify for the event in India. Shahidullah Kamal, Yamin Ahmadzai, Zia-ur-Rehman Akbar and Gulbadin Naib, who were part of the Afghanistan squad that toured Sri Lanka in November last year, have been included in the reserve players.

Experienced players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Noor Ahmed have found place in the ODI team. The three ODIs will be played in Hambantota on June 2, 4 and 7. Afghanistan have also planned a three ODI series against Pakistan to prepare for the World Cup. Asia Cup is also to be played in September in which teams from Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal will participate.
