PSG suspends Messi for traveling to Saudi Arabia

Paris. France’s famous football club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has suspended star footballer Lionel Messi for traveling to Saudi Arabia without the club’s permission. A person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity. The person did not specify the length of the suspension but French media said Messi has been suspended for two weeks. Messi’s two-week suspension means he will miss PSG’s next two matches. The person told the AP that World Cup champion Messi could neither train nor play with the team.

He will also not be paid for the period of suspension. He added that PSG had refused to allow Messi to travel. The 35-year-old Messi has a business contract with the Middle East country to promote tourism in Saudi Arabia. The Argentine star left Barcelona and joined PSG two years ago. Under his leadership, Argentina won the World Cup last year. Messi has not made any public comments regarding the suspension.
