Parry backs RCB skipper, says Smriti just needs a chance

Smriti Mandhana, the costliest player of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), may be going through a rough patch and her team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) off to a poor start, with legendary cricketer Ellyse Perry backing her skipper, saying she needs T20 cricket. Just one chance is needed to play big innings in the tournament. Mandhana, who was bought for Rs 3.4 crore in her debut WPL, has so far scored 35, 23, 18 and 04 runs in four matches in the tournament in which the team has faced defeat.

“Knowing Smriti, I can say that she is a very responsible player, she is taking too much pressure on herself,” Perry said after the 10-wicket defeat by UP Warriors here on Friday. Indian team vice-captain Mandhana is leading a star-studded RCB team that includes players like Perry, Sophie Devine and Heather Knight. Six-time T20 World Cup winner Parry hoped that Mandhana would get out of this phase soon.

He said, “Playing in a new tournament with players you have never played before and mixing with everyone in such a short time.I think he is a wonderful captain. He just needs a chance to play big innings in the tournament. Taking responsibility for the team’s poor performance, Mandhana said, “In the last four matches, this is happening. We start off well and then keep losing wickets. I also take responsibility for this. ”””” He said, ′′ Bowlers need some runs on the score-board to defend. We are trying to make a balanced team. See how it is. Bottom-placed RCB will now face Delhi Capitals on Monday.
