Appointment of new associate members in the Indian Men’s and Women’s Hockey Team

Noted Australian coach Anthony Ferry has been appointed as the analytical coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, while South Africa’s Rhett Halkett will take up the role with the men’s team. Hockey India announced on Friday. The national federation also announced other support staff members for both the teams. Under Ferry’s supervision, the Canadian men’s team qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics. Under her guidance, the Japanese women’s team won its first Asian Games gold medal in 2018.

He will assist head coach Janke Schoepmann in his new role. The Canadian men’s under-21 team qualified for the Junior World Cup with Ferry as coach. From August 2020 to April 2022, he was the coach and high performance director of the US women’s team. Besides Fairey and Halkett, Hockey India also announced the appointment of Australia’s Allan Tan as scientific advisor to the national men’s team. Both Halkett and Tan will be part of the coaching staff of the men’s team led by newly-appointed head coach Craig Fulton of South Africa.

Halkett has played 155 international matches for South Africa from 2010 to 2018. He has been the assistant coach of the Netherlands in 2020. Tan has over 10 years of experience as a ‘Strength and Conditioning’ coach at ‘New South Wealth Institute and Sports’. Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey said, “We welcome the new coaching members to the men’s and women’s teams. On behalf of Hockey India, I thank the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for completing their appointments on an immediate basis and appreciate their continued support in preparing the Indian teams for the Asian Games in China in 2023 .
