Market will decide whether all T20 leagues will be successful or not: Allardyce

International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Geoff Allardyce feels that the rapid expansion of T20 leagues has certainly found new audiences but how many leagues survive in the long run will be determined by market demand. World cricket has been divided over the rise of franchise T20 leagues as the exorbitant lucrative money they offer is attracting top talent to the shorter format of cricket but the counter-argument is that they will become too high.

In the last one month, ILT20 (International Legends T20) is happening in UAE, SA T20 in South Africa, BPL in Bangladesh and now PSL will also start in Pakistan. Allardyce told PTI, “Look I think T20 leagues are adding a new dimension to the game. The balance of the game is changing between the traditional formats of the game and T20 leagues. He is here to participate in the ‘Global Business Summit 2023’.

Allardyce said, “Some leagues are very successful, BCCI (Indian Cricket Board) organizes successful IPL (Indian Premier League) in India and some other countries also have some successful leagues. The market will decide whether all these will be successful or not over time. But in most of the countries, T20 leagues are getting successful in wooing more and more viewers.
