Ajit Agarkar can become the Chief Selector of Team India, resigns from Delhi Capitals

Former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar has emerged as the frontrunner for the post of BCCI men’s chief selector. On Wednesday, Ajit Agarkar’s name surfaced for the race. It is believed that the interview for the post of chief selector may be held on July 1. Shiv Sundar Das is currently leading the men’s selection committee on an interim basis after Chetan Sharma was informally pulled out in February. The last date of application is 30 June. The CAC has the right to choose a selector who can stand up to the high profile team management in case of differences.

enhanced possibilities

Ajit Agarkar on Thursday resigned from the post of assistant coach in the Delhi Capitals IPL team. Delhi Capitals has also confirmed this. The news of him leaving the Delhi Capitals team made it clear that he could be the chief selector while picking the T20 team for the upcoming tour of West Indies. Agarkar, who was previously associated with the post of chief selector, is likely to get a high-pressure job this time. If Agarkar is appointed, there will be two selectors from West Zone and Salil Ankola will be the other. Agarkar has also given interview for the post of selector in 2021 when Chetan Sharma from North Zone became the chairman of the committee.

Team India has had a great journey

The 45-year-old Agarkar, a disciple of late Ramakant Achrekar, has played 191 ODIs, 26 Tests and four T20Is. It is understood that the Mumbai Cricket Association at that time had problems with Agarkar’s candidature and that is the reason why he was not selected. Apart from this, Chetan Sharma, who had the support of a section of the board, would not have become the president if he was elected. The current office-bearers of MCA are no longer in trouble as they have Salil Ankola. The names of Dilip Vengsarkar and Ravi Shastri are also doing the rounds but it is not confirmed whether they have applied or not. Vengsarkar has been the Speaker from 2005 to 2008 and has a maximum term of four years, which means he has only one year left.
