Alert in Spanish football: there are 141 cases of coronavirus, but for now La Liga does not suspend the tournament

Virtually all clubs in the First Division reported cases of COVID-19 on their campuses. The League has no intention of stopping the competition.

The outbreak occurred on the return to training after the Christmas break. For now, La Liga will not take action and this weekend the date 19 would be played.

The appearance of cases in Spanish soccer occurs amid a marked increase in infections in the country, with record numbers since the start of the pandemic. Barcelona led by Xavi Hernández is one of the most affected, with 10 confirmed.

The blaugrana, among infected, injured and sanctioned, only has 8 players available for the duel against Mallorca next Sunday, and must use players from Barcelona B. Dani Alves, Jordi Alba and Philippe Coutinho are some of those affected by the virus.

For its part, Atlético de Madrid confirmed that “Cholo” Simeone tested positive for the second time. In addition to Griezmann, João Félix, Koke and Herrera, who will not participate in the match against Rayo Vallecano on January 2.

The leader of the tournament, Real Madrid, announced yesterday that four of its stars contracted the virus: they are Vinicius Jr, Courtois, Valverde and Camavinga. The players are the last of the long list of infected in the Merengue, which last week registered 10 cases in the squad.

Other very affected clubs are Rayo Vallecano, with 17 positives, Elche, with 12 and Real Sociedad, which registered 10 infected.

Despite the uncontrolled appearance of cases in all the clubs, Javier Tebas, President of the First Division of Spain, does not plan to postpone the matches of matchday 19, except in extreme cases.

The capacity of the courts in Spain is back: they reduce to 75 percent capacity in First and Second division

Spain announced new measures for the coronavirus, among which was the reduction to 75% of the capacity in the LaLiga and Second Division football stadiums.

“A maximum outdoor capacity of 75% is established for open areas and a maximum capacity of up to 50% in closed areas, respecting the mandatory use of masks, neither eating nor smoking”, explained Carolina Darias, Minister of Health, in Press conference.

Spain, like all of Europe, faces the fourth wave of coronavirus driven by the Omicron variant, with 99,671 infections yesterday.
