Ashes Cricket Test: Australia 183 for five, need 98 runs to win

Birmingham. Australia reached 183 for five at tea on the fifth and final day of the first Ashes cricket Test against England here on Tuesday. Australia need 98 more runs in the final session of the match to chase down England’s target of 281, while England need five wickets. Opener Usman Khawaja, who scored a century in the first innings at tea, was playing 56 off 159 balls. All-rounder Cameron Green is supporting him by scoring 22 runs. Both have shared a 40-run partnership for the sixth wicket.

The morning session was washed out due to rain which led to an early lunch break. At the start of the match, the umpires gave 67 overs to the teams. In this way, 38 more overs are yet to be bowled, due to which there is every possibility of getting the result of the match. Australia started the day at 107 for three. Khawaja and night watchman Scott Boland anchored the innings. Stuart Broad broke this partnership in the eighth over of the day by getting Boland caught by wicketkeeper Johnny Bairstow.

Boland played a career-best 20 runs. In-form Travis Head also could not last long and scored 16 runs before being caught by Joe Root at slip off off-spinner Moeen Ali, leaving Australia at 143 for five. Khawaja and Green, however, did not let Australia suffer further setbacks till the tea break.
