Asian Hockey Federation CEO Tyeb Ikram appointed FIH President

Macau’s Mohamed Tyeb Ikram, CEO of the Asian Hockey Federation, was on Saturday elected the new President of the International Hockey Federation (FIH), replacing India’s Narinder Batra. Ikram met Marc Coudron of Belgium at the 48th Congress of the FIH here 79. defeated by 47. Of the total 129 national federations, 126 cast valid votes. Ikram’s tenure will be of two years so that he can complete the term of former president Batra.

Batra resigned on 18 July. Saif Ahmed was the acting President of FIH since then. The Delhi High Court had barred Batra from serving as the head of the Indian Olympic Association. Batra became FIH President in 2016 and resigned in July. He also gave up his membership of the International Olympic Committee. Maureen Craig Roseau of Trinidad and Tobago and Elizabeth Safoa King of Ghana were re-elected to the FIH Executive Board.

Japan’s Hiroya Anzai, Poland’s P Wilkonski and South Africa’s Dion Morgan got their place for the first time. After the election, Ikram said that his priority would be the development of the game and the well being of the players. “My vision is clear that the sport should develop, the participation of national federations should increase and there is a strong synergy among all the members and stakeholders,” he said.

“We have to create a professional framework for the players. Sportspersons are my priority.” Talking about the biggest challenge before him, Ikram said, “The global economy at the moment which is the biggest question mark on all. We have to face these challenges wisely. A strong strategy has to be made regarding finance. New dimensions have to be found for our partners and stakeholders.
