Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 546 runs to record their biggest Test win

Mirpur.Bangladesh thrashed Afghanistan by a massive 546 runs to register their biggest Test win in terms of runs here on Saturday. This is the third biggest win in terms of runs in the history of Test cricket. Chasing a target of 662 runs for the victory, Afghanistan’s team was dismissed for 115 runs in the second innings on the fourth day of the match. Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed took four wickets for 37, giving a career-best performance. Najmul laid the foundation for Bangladesh’s victory by scoring centuries in both the innings (146 and 124).

He became the second Bangladesh batsman after Mominul Haque to score a century in both innings of Test cricket. Bangladesh’s previous biggest win was by 226 runs against Zimbabwe in 2005. The record for the biggest win in terms of runs in Tests is held by England, who beat Australia by 675 runs in 1928. This was followed by Australia’s 562-run victory over England at The Oval in 1934. Afghanistan started the day at 45 for two. In the third over of the day itself, Ibadat Hussain (1/22) had Nasir Jamal (six runs) caught by the wicketkeeper. While Rahmat Shah (30 runs) stood firm at one end, Shariful Islam (3 for 28) removed Afsar Zazai (six) and Bahir Shah (seven) from the other end. Bahir came out to bat in place of captain Hashmatullah Shahidi. Hurt retired on 13 after being hit by a bouncer from Shahidi Taskin on the third day.

Taskin dismissed Rahmat to ensure a big win for the team. After this, he also showed the way to the pavilion to Karim Jannat (18) and Yameen Ahmadzai (one). Bangladesh had bowled out Afghanistan for 146 after scoring 382 in the first innings. The team had declared the second innings after scoring 425 runs for four wickets, which gave Afghanistan a target of 662 runs.
