Bengaluru FC dominate in Super Cup opener against Srinidhi Deccan
Indian Super League (ISL) runners-up Bengaluru FC will look to continue their good form when they take on I-League side Srinidhi Deccan in the opening match of the Super Cup football tournament on Saturday. The team, led by the charismatic Sunil Chhetri, had lost to ATK Mohun Bagan in the ISL final. In the Super Cup, they will have a great chance to fulfill their title dream. I-League champions Punjab Kings will face home team Kerala Blasters in the second match of the day in Group A.
The Punjab FC team, which won the I-League season and earned a place in the ISL, has to fulfill the club license criteria. The tournament is returning after a gap of four years. Its third season featured 16 teams, including 11 from the ISL and five from the I-League. All the matches of the Super Cup will be played at two venues (EMS Corporation Stadium and Payyanad Stadium in Manjeri) in Kerala. The teams have been divided into groups of four and the top team from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. Its final will be played here on April 25.
