Disney+ Hotstar on Friday said that over half a billion smartphone users in India will be able to watch this year’s Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for free on the OTT platform. This is a big news for cricket lovers. The company said in a release that the purpose of lifting the paywall for mobile-only viewers of both the Asia Cup and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is to further democratize the sport of cricket and provide access to as many mobile users in India as possible during this period. It added that over 540 million smartphone users across India will get the opportunity to watch Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for free. Disney+ Hotstar has also enabled free streaming for tablets. The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held during the cricket-crazy September and India will also host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup that will last for almost two months from October 5 to November 19. The Asia Cup will have 13 matches scheduled, the World Cup will have 10 nations fighting for the coveted trophy and a total of 48 matches are scheduled.
