BNP Paribas Open: Andy Murray beats Tomas Martin Hévéry in second round

Indian Wells. Three-time Grand Slam winner Andy Murray came back from a set down to beat Tomas Martin Haveri and reach the second round of the BNP Paribas Open tennis tournament on Thursday. Murray defeated Hverry 6-7, 6-1, 6-4 in a first round match that lasted more than three hours. Murray has not lost a match that reached a deciding third or fifth set this season. Murray has won all five of his best-of-three sets in 2023 when he reaches the third set and both of his best-of-five sets when he reaches the fifth set.

Stan Wawrinka, winner of three Grand Slam titles, also returned to hard court competition in California, defeating qualifier Aleksandar Vukic 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 in a three-set match. Wawrinka will next face 26th seed Miomir Kesmanovic. Ben Shelton ousted Fabio Fognini 6-4, 6-1. In the women’s section, 2021 US Open champion Ema Raducanu beat Denka Kovinich 6-2, 6-3 while 2022 Australian Open runner-up Danielle Collins was defeated by No. 80 Delma Galfi 6-4, 6-4.
