Cricket: Gary Stead will remain the coach of New Zealand cricket team till 2025

Wellington. New Zealand Cricket has rejected the proposal to have separate coaches for different formats and now Gary Stead will remain the head coach of the team for the next two years. Brian Stronak, New Zealand Cricket’s high performance general manager, said the proposal to have a different coach was discussed and rejected. If needed, the services of additional coaching staff can be taken. Stead was appointed in 2018 and has been given a second term.

His current contract was to expire after the World Cup in India but he will be in office till the end of the current World Test Championship season in 2025. “There was overwhelming support for Gary from players, support staff and coaches from different associations,” said Stronak. His performances have been impressive and we are sure he can give a lot to the team. Gary has also expressed his desire to stay with the team.” Under Stead’s coaching, New Zealand won their first World Test Championship title and reached the finals of the 50-over and T20 World Cups.
