Cristiano’s goal gives Italy a 1-0 win over Argentina in Women’s World Cup

Auckland. Italy opened their campaign at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 with a 1-0 win over Argentina on Monday thanks to a goal by Cristiano Girelli. Christiana broke the deadlock with a header in the 87th minute of the match in a draw between these two Group G teams. His effort proved to be the match-winner.
He came on as a substitute in the 83rd minute. Italy twice fired the ball into Argentina’s goal post in the opening half but both times their efforts were ruled offside. Italy goalkeeper Lara Esponda made a brilliant save on a free-kick in the 73rd minute of the match.
Argentina next face South Africa in Dunedin on Friday, while Italy face Sweden in Wellington on Saturday. Sweden beat South Africa 2-1 in the other Group G match on Sunday.
