Former Indian footballer Syed Sabeer Pasha joins AIFF as technical director

Former India international Syed Sabir Pasha has joined the All India Football Federation (AIFF) as the technical director. AIFF announced this on Wednesday. Pasha is the first Indian to be appointed to the post on a full-time basis. Pasha has many years of experience playing and coaching at the domestic and international level.

Welcoming Pasha, AIFF President Kalyan Choubey said, “Given his experience and the work he has done during his playing and coaching career, he is a worthy candidate to be the Technical Director. We are confident that he will make great strides in this work and play a leadership role in the technical matters of Indian football.

AIFF general secretary Shaji Prabhakaran said, “He will be guided by senior professional Vincent Subramaniam who is our chief technical officer.” Pasha made his debut for the national team in the 1993 Nehru Cup and played 12 matches. He scored the crucial goal in the final of the 1995 SAFF Games against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Pasha played in international tournaments like Nehru Cup in 1993 and 1995, SAFF Cup in 1995, SAFF Games in 1995, Asia Cup Qualifier in 1996 and World Cup Qualifier in 1996. He was part of the Indian team that won the gold medal in the 1995 SAF Games and was the runner-up in the 1995 SAF Cup. The former winger won the Golden Boot twice – in 1994 with six goals and in 1998 with nine goals. He scored 26 goals for Tamil Nadu in the Santosh Trophy.
