Gaikwad and Conway gave huge score to Chennai

A century partnership between Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway helped Chennai Super Kings post 217 for seven in their IPL match against Lucknow Supergiants. While Gaikwad anchored the innings, skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni enthralled the crowd at the Garh Chepauk Stadium in Chennai with an 89-metre six. ‘Thala’ Dhoni hit two sixes but Mark Wood was dismissed after scoring 12 runs in three balls in an attempt to hit the third six.

Gaikwad scored 57 runs in 37 balls with the help of three fours and four sixes while Devon Conway scored 47 runs in 29 balls which included five fours and two sixes. Shivam Dubey scored 27 runs in 16 balls which included one four and three sixes. Wood, who took five wickets against Delhi Capitals on Sunday, took three wickets for 49 runs in four overs. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi took three wickets for 28 runs in four overs for Lucknow. Sent in to bat first, Gaikwad and Conway scored 79 runs in the first six overs.

Gaikwad, who scored 92 in the first match, kept that momentum going and was ably supported by New Zealand’s Conway. Chennai’s 100 runs were scored in the eighth over. Gaikwad hit three sixes in K Gautam’s first over. Fast bowler Avesh Khan gave 16 runs in the first four balls of the second over. He took the wicket of Ben Stokes for 39 runs in three overs. Earlier, the match started a few minutes late due to the presence of a dog on the field.
