I will be proud of this achievement for the rest of my life: Murphy
Australia’s young spinner Todd Murphy, who has taken five wickets in his Test debut so far including Lokesh Rahul, Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli, said the feat against India is something he will cherish and take pride in for life. Murphy has so far taken five wickets for 82 runs in 36 overs. “The last two days have been very special and to top it with a five-wicket haul on debut is beyond my expectation,” he said after the second day’s play in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. This is something that I will feel proud to see for the rest of my life.
Praising the Indian batsmen’s ability to use their hands against the spinners, Murphy said, “I haven’t bowled to a lot of batsmen around the world.” However, I think the Indian batsmen use their hands really well. They get their hands out in front of their pads and they have a lot of options to score runs as well. It is difficult to play against him.
Murphy was initially a medium-pacer, but later switched to off-spin bowling and it paid off for him. He said, “To be honest, my medium pace bowling was not good, so there came a time when I was practicing with off-spin bowling in the nets. I got some really cool feedback on this. So from there it all started. I started working harder on it. This is the best job ever. That’s why I’m grateful.
