Indian Women Team: Dropped catches, looted runs… Questions are being raised about not performing well in knockouts

The ICC T20 Women’s World Cup 2023 is being played in South Africa. The Indian women’s cricket team performed brilliantly and made it to the semi-finals. To reach the final, he had to give a crushing defeat to Australia. But once again the Indian team could not challenge the reign of Australia. The Indian team had to face defeat by 5 runs in a hard-fought match. However, in this match too, there were some big mistakes from Team India, due to which the match went out of India’s hands. After losing the toss, the team had to bowl first. Indian bowling looked helpless in front of Australian batsmen. Bowlers looted a lot of runs. After this the fielding was also nothing special. Catches were dropped on two crucial occasions which cost the team dearly.

 

The Indian team maintained the process of looting the runs from the beginning. However, there was definitely a slight decrease in the run rate in the middle. But in the last 2 overs, the Indian bowlers gave away 30 runs. This became a big reason for India’s defeat. Apart from this, once again India’s top order failed completely in big matches. This is the reason why questions are being raised once again. The Indian team has now repeated the mistake of London, Melbourne, Birmingham in Cape Town. The Indian women’s cricket team had created a new history as soon as they reached the final of the ODI World Cup 2017. It was believed that this time India would give a tough fight to the Australia team. But there was no change in the story. The run out of Harmanpreet Kaur completely changed the story and the team got a defeat which cannot be forgotten for a long time.

 

However, this is not the first time that the Indian team has failed to win in the knockouts. England were defeated in the 2017 World Cup final. After this, in the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup in 2018, England again became an obstacle in front of him. The Indian team had also lost the final of the last T20 World Cup in Melbourne and the gold medal match of the Commonwealth Games last year. On both these occasions he was defeated by Australia. The Indian team had an inconsistent performance in the league stage of the ongoing World Cup but were in a winning position in the semi-finals. Despite poor fielding and average bowling, India were in a winning position with the batting of Harmanpreet and Jemimah Rodrigues. In such a situation, the question arises that why the Indian team does not get favorable results in such pressure matches. Is it a team selection issue or fitness that has led to a very poor fielding. Or team strategy or something. India’s fielding was abysmal on Thursday and fielding coach Shubhadeep Ghosh will have many questions to answer.
