Indian women’s team will get new head coach, will be selected on June 30

New Delhi. Amol Majumdar and Tushar Arothe are among the shortlisted candidates for the post of Indian women’s team head coach, who will be interviewed on June 30. Arothe has coached the Indian team in the past, while Majumdar, who has coached Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals and the South African national team, is in talks to become Baroda’s coach.

It is learned that England’s John Lewis, a former Durham coach, has also applied for the job. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe and Sulakshana Nayak will conduct the interview in Mumbai. A BCCI (Indian Cricket Board) official said, “The interviews will be held on Friday. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team has been without a head coach since December when Ramesh Powar was sacked from the post. During the T20 World Cup earlier this year, batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar took charge of the team.

A former Indian player said, “I don’t think bringing Tushar back would be a good option. The team needs a coach who has fresh ideas. A coach like Amol would be the right fit to take him forward. After picking the head coach, the CAC is likely to appoint the chief selector for the Indian men’s team as the post has been lying vacant since February following the ouster of Chetan Sharma. The last date to fill the application for this is June 30 and the interview is likely to be held on July 1. Ajit Agarkar is leading the race for the post of chief selector.
