India’s Bindayarani Devi dominated the Asian Championship, won the silver medal by lifting 194 kg
Jinju. Indian weightlifter Bindayarani Devi won a silver medal in the women’s 55kg category at the Asian Weightlifting Championships here on Saturday. Commonwealth Games silver medalist Bindayarani finished second with a total lift of 194kg (83kg + 111kg). His 55 kg weight category, however, is not included in the Olympics. Bindayarani lifted 80kg and 83kg in her first two attempts in snatch.
After this she tried to lift 85 kg but failed in that. The Indian made up for it in the clean and jerk and won the silver medal with the second highest lift. During this, he lifted 109 kg in the first attempt and 111 kg in the second attempt. However, his third attempt was not considered valid. The 24-year-old decided to go back to the 55kg category after getting injured ahead of the selection trials.
He had earlier started competing in 59kg which is part of the Paris Olympics. Bindayarani had participated in the World Championships last year in the 59kg category, where she finished 25th. Let us tell you that in this championship, China’s Chen Guan Ling has captured the gold medal with a combined weight of 204 kg. He has lifted a total of 90 kg in snatch, 114 kg in clean and jerk. At the same time, Quynh Nhu of Vietnam won the bronze medal by lifting a total of 192 kg.
Mirabai Chanu’s performance was like this
India’s star lifter Mirabai Chanu did not have a promising campaign at the Asian Championships due to a hip problem as she struggled in snatch and missed her last two attempts in clean and jerk to finish sixth here on Friday. The Tokyo Olympics silver medalist Mirabai, competing in the 49kg category, managed 85kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk for a total lift of 194kg, 13kg less than her personal best of 207kg. Mirabai has a personal best performance of 88 kg in snatch and 119 kg in clean and jerk. She was eliminated after only one attempt at the clean and jerk.
