Injured Archer out, Jordan in Mumbai Indians team

England fast bowler Joffra Archer, who is suffering from a fitness problem, will not be able to play the rest of the matches of the current IPL season, in which Chris Jordan has been included in the Mumbai team. Five-time champions Mumbai bought Archer in the auction for Rs 8 crore but he could only take two wickets in five matches this season. He has been away from international cricket for the last two years due to a back injury and did not even play in the IPL last year. The England and Wales Cricket Board will monitor Archer’s fitness and recovery.

The ECB said in a statement, “Archer is recovering after surgery on his right elbow. He felt uneasy after making a comeback recently. Hope he gets well soon. Therefore it was decided that he should return to England for rest and rehabilitation. He has played for Sunrisers Hyderabad, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings. He has taken 96 wickets in 87 T20 matches for England. He went unsold in the IPL auction and Mumbai has now signed him for Rs 2 crore.
