IOC and OCA recognized IOA elections

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) recognized the newly formed Executive Committee of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) after the recently held elections. Both the governing bodies also congratulated the new IOA President PT Usha in a letter dated December 16. According to the letter, “We have taken note of the results of the IOA elections. We would like to congratulate you on your election as the President of the Indian Olympic Association and all the members of the elected Executive Council.

The letter was jointly written by James McLeod, Director of Olympic Solidarity and NOC Relations of the IOC, and Hussein Al-Mussallam, Director General and Technical Director of the OCA. Usha, 58, was elected president unopposed in the elections held on the 10th of this month. The IOC had in September asked the IOA to be ready to hold elections by December or face a ban.

“The election process has been completed in accordance with the decisions taken by the IOC Executive Board and the agreed roadmap,” the letter said. We are pleased to confirm that the situation is now fully back to normal with the IOC and OCA in this matter. We may ask for the resumption of our regular activities with the IOA. “We look forward to establishing a fruitful association with you and the newly-elected IOA leadership and to promote the Olympic campaign and sportspersons in India in accordance with the Olympic Charter.” Look forward to working together to support and assist the IOA in carrying out its mission and daily activities in the interest of the
