IPL 2023: Big blow to Lucknow, KL Rahul out of remaining season, Quinton de Kock will get chance

Captain Lokesh Rahul has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL season due to a serious thigh injury. Not only this, Lucknow has got another big blow. The condition of the team’s experienced fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat’s shoulder is also serious and he has also been ruled out of this IPL. A senior BCCI source told on conditions of anonymity that KL is currently with the team in Lucknow, but he is leaving the camp on Thursday after watching the game against CSK on Wednesday. He will be scanned at the BCCI designated medical facility in Mumbai.

An injury to KL Rahul means that Quinton de Kock has finally made it into the squad. The team had so far given priority to Kyle Meyers in his place. It is believed that Krunal Pandya will lead the Lucknow Super Giants this season. Preparing senior batsman and wicketkeeper Rahul for the World Test Championship final to be held in London from June 7 to 11 will be difficult. Rahul suffered this injury in his right thigh while trying to stop Faf du Plessis’ cover drive from Marcus Stoinis near the boundary. The source also confirmed that no scans have been done so far.

Lucknow Supergiants, weakened by injuries to Lokesh Rahul and pacer Jaydev Unadkat, will have to be wary of a comeback-looking Chennai Super Kings in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Wednesday. The Lucknow team was bowled out for 108 in 19.5 overs while chasing a target of 127 against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday. Players like Kyle Myers, Nicholas Pooran, Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya have done well for Lucknow in the previous matches but Rahul struggled to score runs after scoring half-centuries against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans.
