Jofra Archer out of Ashes series due to elbow injury

England fast bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the Ashes series against Australia due to a right elbow injury. Due to this injury, Archer has been able to play very little cricket from 2021. According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), scans have revealed a flare-up of his elbow injury, which will rule him out of any international matches this summer. The 28-year-old fast bowler, born in Barbados, had two operations on his elbow in 2021. He was associated with the Mumbai Indians team to play in the Indian Premier League this year but had to return home midway.

ECB Managing Director Robert Key said, “It has been a disappointing and troubling time for Jofra Archer. He was making good progress until he recovered from an elbow injury. We wish him a speedy recovery. Hopefully we will see him win matches for England again. The first of the five Test matches of the Ashes series will be played from 16 June. Before this, the England team will play a Test match against Ireland at Lord’s from June 1. England on Tuesday announced a 15-man squad for the match against Ireland, in which Jonny Bairstow has also been included.

Bairstow suffered a fracture in his left leg after slipping while playing golf, after which he did not play any matches for his country. England have won 10 of their 12 Test matches since Brendon McCullum was appointed coach and Ben Stokes as captain last year. Earlier England had won only one Test match out of 17 matches. England squad for Ireland match: Ben Stokes (c), James Anderson, Jonny Bairstow, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
