Asian Championship: Wrestler Anuj Kumar selected for coaching camp

Wrestler Anuj Kumar has been selected in the coaching camp for the upcoming Asian Wrestling Championship following the Delhi High Court’s decision to allow five wrestlers to participate in the trials. This information was given to the court on Wednesday. All these five wrestlers had participated in the selection trials for the tournament to be held in Kazakhstan from April 9 to 14. The central government’s counsel made this statement before Justice Pratibha M Singh on the petition of five wrestlers Anuj Kumar, Chander Mohan, Vijay, Ankit and Sachin Mor.

The Wrestling Federation of India last month dropped him from the trial after which he took refuge in the court. Central government’s counsel Manish Mohan said in view of the allegations of sexual misconduct and high handedness by WFI, the Sports Ministry has constituted a monitoring committee which is also selecting players for international tournaments. The committee has fixed the selection criteria, the information of which has been given to all.

The reply filed by the Center said, “As per the order of the Hon’ble Court dated March 9, 2023, the Monitoring Committee had allowed the five petitioners to participate in the selection trials which were conducted by the Committee on March 10 and 11.” Based on the trial results, Anuj Kumar has been selected for the coaching camp for the Asian Championship.
