KIYG 2022: Players create history in steeplechase race and shot put, break national records

The seventh day of Khelo India Youth Games 2022, Madhya Pradesh was very spectacular and full of excitement. On this day, two young players showcased their talent and broke the national youth record and set new records. Both the new records were made at Bhopal’s TT Nagar Stadium where track and field competitions are being organized for the Khelo India Youth Games.

On the seventh day of Khelo India, Delhi’s Sonam broke the record in the girls’ 2000m steeplechase race. He finished his race in 6.45.71 minutes which has become a new record. After this, in the boys’ shotput final, Siddharth Chowdhary of Rajasthan set a new national record with a record of 21.04m. Sonam and Siddharth’s strong performance was talked about throughout the day of the game.

Sonam Jahan defeated her rival C Keerthana of Telangana by a margin of half a minute. Integration of Madhya Pradesh and got a bronze medal in the steeplechase race. In the shotput final, Siddharth defeated Ashutosh Dubey of Uttar Pradesh. Ashutosh has won the silver medal with a throw of 19.70 metres. Anurag Singh Kaler got the third position.

Maharashtra has topped the points table by winning a total of 25 gold medals so far this year. On the other hand, Haryana is at number two with 22 gold medals and host Madhya Pradesh is at third place with 21 gold medals. There is a very small gap between the two which can change each other’s position anytime.

Wherein Gwalior’s Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education, where the gymnast’s competition was organized, Maharashtra’s Samyukta Kale won three gold medals. Samyukta won three medals in clubs, hoop and ball. Muskan Rana of Jammu and Kashmir stood second.

Among the gymnasts, Dipesh Lashkari of Madhya Pradesh (Horizontal Bar), Jatin Kumar Kanojia of Uttar Pradesh (Parallel Bar), Surbhi Prasanna of Telangana (Girled Vault), Nishi Bhavsar of Gujarat (Dancing Beam), Somili Karar of West Bengal (Floor Exercise), Maharashtra’s Urvi Wagh (un even bars) has also won the gold medal.

On the other hand, in the football competition being held at Mulna Stadium in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh, the girls’ football team defeated Kerala by showing a strong game in front of 2000 people and made their place in the semi-finals. Madhya Pradesh has defeated Kerala by 3-1. With no goal in the second half, the Madhya Pradesh team got a free kick, on which Monisha Singh gave the team a strong lead, which turned into victory. In another match, there was a contest between Arunachal Pradesh and Daman and Diu where Arunachal won.

On the other hand, Punjab boys football team qualified for the semi-finals by defeating Arunachal Pradesh 3-0 at the Emerland Heights Ground, Indore. Kerala beat Madhya Pradesh 5-0 to make it to the semi-finals.

Kabaddi competitions also started on the seventh day at Abhay Prashal, Indore. Among girls, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar won while among boys Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and UP were the winners. Apart from this, the boys and girls teams of Madhya Pradesh won the hockey matches. The boys team beat Jharkhand 5-1 and the girls team beat Odisha 5-0.

In shooting, 17-year-old Adrian Karmakar, former Olympian and son of Chief Rifle Cot Joydeep Karmakar, won the gold medal in the 50m Rifle (3P) event by defeating Rajasthan’s Manvendra Shekhawat by 16 points. In the 10m air pistol mixed doubles, Uttar Pradesh’s Keshav Chowdhary and Sanskriti Bana defeated Shubham and Suruchi.
