Klaasen’s 119 not out helped South Africa beat West Indies

Heinrich Klaasen struck an unbeaten century as South Africa beat West Indies by four wickets to level the four-match series 1-1, here on Tuesday. The first match of the series was washed out while the second match was won by the West Indies. Klaasen hit 15 fours and five sixes in his 61-ball stormy innings. He completed his second career century in just 54 balls. He made the team win with 123 balls remaining by hitting six and two fours in the first three balls of the 30th over.

South Africa chased down the target easily after bowling out the West Indies for 260 in 48.2 overs. Marco Jansen, Bjorn Fortuyn and Gerald Coetzee took two wickets each for South Africa. Opener Brandon King scored 72 runs for the West Indies. Nicholas Pooran (39) and Jason Holder (36) could not convert a good start into a big innings for the team. South Africa’s start was also not as per expectations.

Ryan Richelton, Tony De Jorzi, Rassie van der Dussen and stand-in captain Aiden Markram were dismissed for 87 runs. Klaasen then scored at will against the West Indies bowlers. He shared a 55-run partnership with David Miller (17) and then a 103-run partnership from 62 balls with Jansen (43) to ensure South Africa’s victory. Alzarri Joseph took three wickets for 50 runs for the West Indies.
