Thank you for being such an incredible exponent to all of us black boys who thought it would never be possible for the fashion industry to exist at the luxury level. I still remember your first show for @LouisVuitton and how much it changed the culture, the culture for so many years that was devoid of color.

Virgil Abloh. It is a devastating loss to culture and fashion. What inspiration and creative power.

As a Black designer in extreme white luxury spaces, Virgil Abloh’s existence was so prolific that it paved the way for other Black designers like me. And for that I am forever grateful. As I reflect on his passing, I think about what an important life he lived. In African culture, and certainly in Ghanaian culture, from where Virgil has its roots, they do not mourn a life lost, but celebrate a life well lived. Virgil inspired millions with his God-given talent. He lived his purpose. That is the greatest blessing. He was always in the midst of the public and his legacy lives on.

The world has lost a creative genius. @Virgilabloh was only in Doha two weeks ago to open his latest exhibition, Figures of Speech @dohafirestation. His generosity, kindness, innovation and appeal are just a few words I can use to describe the visual memory I will always have with him. A Ghanaian boy who conquered the world of creativity through his interdisciplinary approach – pushing innovation to the latest levels. I hope you will be inspired by his latest exhibition in Doha. The time he spent talking about his early debut with the youth will undoubtedly echo in his mind forever. My condolences and prayers are with his wife and children. May his soul rest in peace. So sad to hear of the passing of dear Virgil, one of the kindest people you can meet, many a great time traveling the world and working on the floors in hotel rooms and rummaging through Japanese magazines and laughing. And spent the day talking about thoughts… thoughts for Mary Shannon and the kids and the rest of her family.

Virgil, I’m lost for words. The world has lost a fashion superstar. an investigator. A producer for history books. I am thinking of all your loved ones on this sad day. Love, Donatella.

You left us too early Virgil. Your creativity, your infinite sense of curiosity, your love for design, your impeccable work ethic and your immense generosity shaped a creative universe that challenged age-old misconceptions about how fashion should communicate with other disciplines. Your understanding of fashion bridged a gap, attracting new audiences who respected your designs.
