Pankaj Singh elected president of Cycling Federation of India, elected unopposed

New Delhi. Pankaj Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Noida and son of Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, was elected president of the Cycling Federation of India (CFI) unopposed at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Nainital. Maninder Pal Singh was elected general secretary for the second consecutive term on Sunday, while Sudesh Kumar from Kerala was elected treasurer.

26 States and Boards affiliated to CFI participated in the AGM. Two members from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana were elected to the Executive Council while one each from Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Bihar, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh and Andaman and Nicobar. One member got a place in the council. Pankaj Singh thanked all the members for their support.

“I will ensure that not only the cyclists but also the sportspersons of India get the best of facilities and focus on the grassroots programme,” he said. “I have more work to do on my part. Cycling is the most popular sport but we have to develop it at the elite level. We have to focus on the players at the grassroots level from where we can get the best talent. We have to hone them with vigilance and we can win medals at the international level.
