Sachin started with a win on his World Championship debut, two other Indians lost

Indian boxer Sachin Siwach (54kg) made a brilliant start to his campaign at the World Boxing Championships with an easy win over Moldova’s Sergei Novak, here on Monday. Former world youth champion Sachin is participating in the senior world championship for the first time. He made it to the pre-quarterfinals of the ‘Bentham Weight’ with a 5-0 unanimous decision win. India’s other two boxers Govind Sahni (48kg) and Naveen (92kg) suffered unanimous decision defeats. Sachin adopted an aggressive attitude as soon as the match started and rained punches on his opponent.

The 23-year-old Indian boxer used his height advantage and easily took the first round. Even in the second round, Sachin showed no mercy to Novak and threw punches. Meanwhile, his defense was also strong and he easily defended himself from his opponent’s attack. Despite winning the first two rounds, Sachin showed no signs of laxity in the third and final round as well. The Moldovan boxer had no answer for his uppercut.

He will face 2021 World Championships silver medalist Mahmud Sabirkhan for a place in the quarterfinals. Naveen faces a challenge from 2021 World Championships bronze medalist Emmanuel Reyes. The Spaniard, however, completely dominated him. Naveen stumbled and fell in the initial stages and then got up after the umpire started the count. After this he did not look comfortable in his game. He was also struggling to land punches on the rival boxer. Sahni was defeated by top seed and World Championship bronze medalist Sakhil Alakhverdovi of Georgia in a one-sided match. Sawhney could not stand anywhere in front of Alakhverdovi’s aggressive game. In the 2021 World Championship too, Sahni was out after losing to the same boxer.
