Shubhankar finishes eighth in The Open Championship, best performance by an Indian

Hoylake. India’s Shubhankar Sharma finished tied-eighth in The Open Championship, the best-ever finish by an Indian in golf’s oldest major, here on Sunday. Shubhankar, playing in the Open Championship for the third time, was the only player to post a bogey-free score on the final day. He shot a one-under 70 in the final round to total five-under 279.

With this performance, he also got the right to play in the Open Championship to be held in 2024. This performance of Shubhankar is the second best performance by an Indian in a major tournament. The best performance came from Anirban Lahiri, who finished tied-fifth at the 2015 PGA Championship.
