Srikanth will take the services of Indonesian coach for the preparation of Olympics
Keeping the Paris Olympics in mind, India’s star badminton player Kidambi Srikanth has decided to rope in the services of Indonesian coach Wimpi Nahardi. The qualification period for the Paris Olympics 2024 begins on May 1. Struggling with poor form, Srikanth has taken this decision to improve his game. He told PTI, “I was looking for a coach since Agus left in December 2021.” Now I have Indonesian coach Wimpi Nahardi. I met him when I went to Indonesia for three weeks. He has come to India in the last week of April.
The Indian men’s singles team is without a foreign coach after the departure of Indonesia’s Agus Dwi Santoso. In February, PV Sindhu decided to part ways with Park Tae Sang, who was also helping the men’s singles players. Srikkanth said, “I wanted to take the services of a coach through TOPS but it could not happen. I sent the proposal to SAI in January, which was not implemented. With the start of the Olympic qualification period, I could not wait any longer, so I decided to hire my own coach.
Srikanth had won four titles in 2017 with Mulyo Handoyo of Indonesia. Srikanth is yet to get time to practice with the new coach as he was busy with the Asian Games selection trials. He finished on top with six wins and qualified for the individual category. “I haven’t been able to practice with him because I haven’t got time since the Asia Badminton Championship. There was only two days before the trial. Hopefully after the upcoming Asian tournaments, I will be able to practice with him.
