This matter first came to the fore in 2015. Then a student who had gone to the US from Nepal complained that his family members had even faced violence in Nepal on several occasions because they belonged to an alleged low caste. But he never thought that he would have to face caste discrimination in America too. The student had told the media that during his interactions with other South Asians, he was reminded of caste in everything from restaurants to community events. Since then, when the caste system was discussed in America, then it was discussed. In many places a group of students started organizing themselves. An anti-caste association was also established. Today it has branches in 23 campuses. But only the Davis-based campus has changed the rules so far. But the students running the campaign are happy with this. He says that this is a big step towards the acceptance of the problem of caste discrimination in America. This sends the message that this is a problem that the time has come to deal with it.
