Chennai Open Challenger: De Alboran beats top seed Seng

Nicolas Moreno de Alboran of America caused an upset by defeating top seed Chun Hsien Seng of Chinese Taipei 6-2, 6-4 in the singles pre-quarterfinals of the Chennai Open ATP Challenger tennis tournament here on Wednesday. Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama also entered the last eight with a 6-1, 6-7(10), 6-4 upset of Dalibor Svarsina. Australia’s Dan Sweeney defeated qualifier James McCabe 6–2, 6–1.

In doubles, the Indian pair of Sumit Nagal and Sasikumar Mukund cruised into the quarterfinals with a win over Yoo Seo Soo and Christopher Rungkat but Ramkumar Ramanathan and Vishnu Vardhan lost to Korea’s Ji Sung Nam and Min Kyu Song. Meanwhile, top seeded Indian pair of Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Sriram Balaji beat Frederic Ferreira Silva and de Alboran 6-4,7-5 to enter the last eight where they will face compatriots Nagal and Sasikumar.
