Bengal’s 310 for nine with Anustup’s 159

Experienced Anustup Majumdar scored an unbeaten 159 as Bengal overcame a poor start to post 310 for nine against Himachal on the first day of their Ranji Trophy Group A match on Tuesday. Former champions Bengal had lost five wickets for 44 runs at one stage. Medium pacer Siddharth Sharma took five wickets for 69 runs. Rishi Dhawan was dismissed for five by Sudeep Kumar Gharami while fast bowler Kanwar Abhinay took the crucial wicket of skipper Manoj Tiwary (three).

After this, Majumdar and Shahbaz Ahmed shared a 110-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Majumdar added 65 runs for the eighth wicket with Akash Deep. Shahbaz contributed 49 and Akash contributed 34 runs. Majmudar hit 21 fours in the innings, making his best first-class score. Day 1’s play was called off 12 overs early due to bad light. Ishaan Porel was at the crease with Majumdar scoring six runs. In the match being played in Dimapur, Uttar Pradesh scored 400 runs for three wickets against Nagaland. Madhav Kaushik scored 107 and Dhruv Jurel scored 194 runs. Odisha’s team was bowled out for 213 against Uttarakhand in Dehradun.
