Bhavani Devi became the first Indian to win a medal in the Asian Fencing Championship

New Delhi. India’s swordsman CA Bhavani Devi has created history by winning the Asian Fencing Championship medal. Indian player Bhavani Devi has brought laurels to India by winning bronze medal in this championship. Earlier, he had assured himself of a medal by defeating the defending world champion in the quarterfinal match.
 
In the championship being held in Wuxi, China, swordsman CA Bhavani Devi on Monday faced defeat in the semi-finals of the women’s saber competition. Even after this, he created history for India by winning the bronze medal. CA Bhavani Devi is the first player from India to bring a medal in fencing. In such a situation, this medal is very special for India.
 
Let us tell you that Bhavani had to face a hard-fought 14-15 defeat against Uzbekistan’s Zeynab Deybekova in the semi-finals but she ensured India’s first medal in this prestigious competition. Bhavani had caused an upset by defeating defending world champion Misaki Emura of Japan 15-10 in the quarterfinals. This was Bhavani’s first win against Misaki. Earlier, she had lost all her matches against the Japanese player.
Bhavani got a bye in the round of 64 after which she defeated Dospe Karina of Kazakhstan in the next round. The Indian upset third seed Ozaki Seri 15-11 in the pre-quarterfinals as well. Rajeev Mehta, general secretary of the Fencing Association of India, has congratulated Bhavani on her historic achievement.
 
Mehta said, “It is a very proud day for Indian fencing. Bhavani has done what no one else has been able to achieve before. She is the first Indian fencer to win a medal at the prestigious Asian Championships. On behalf of the entire fencing fraternity, I congratulate her. “Even though she lost in the semi-finals, the match was very close. The difference was only one point. So it is a big improvement.” Bhavani, who became the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics, had made a round-of-32 exit at the Tokyo Games.
 
The dream of medal remained in Tokyo Olympics
Bhavani Devi had earlier also performed strongly in the Tokyo Olympics. During this, his performance attracted the attention of the people. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had praised his game and his performance. In this tournament, she missed out on getting a medal for the country.
